I finally got to see Slither - Nathan Fillion's new movie - yesterday.
Having dragged myself out of bed ever-so-EARLY for a Sunday (08:30) I packed myself up ready for the Storm game and headed off to catch the 10:00 screening at Knox.
Now, Slither isn't generally the kind of movie I'd go to see. It's a horror. Sure, years ago, at the height of the Freddy Krueger phenomenon I would have been right there but not so much now. However, with Nathan Fillion as the 'star' of the show, there was no way in the World I was going to miss it.
SO, was it worth getting up at such a ridiculous time on a Sunday to see a 'horror' movie by myself?
YOU BETCHA!!! I LOVED IT!
Talk about a crack up. Of course, Nathan 'made' the movie but I thought Gregg Henry was brilliant as the Mayor and Elizabeth Banks did a wonderful job playing the downright unlucky Starla Banks. It wasn't really very scary, although I admit to jumping once - well, maybe twice - OK, three times ;) It seemed to find the right balance mix of gore and comedy and frights so it wasn't too over the top any way. It's also very tongue-in-cheek, just as a good horror should be. It doesn't take itself too seriously.
I mentioned to Emma later that Nathan Fillion could make a three hour movie with him just reading excerpts from the White Pages and I would quite happily pay $15 bucks to watch it. Heck, I'd probably pay $35 to watch it in Gold Class and I'd enjoy every single second of it. He has such an onscreen presence - ouch, cliché - but I think he is quite remarkable.
All-in-all, it was a fun movie. It's not a movie a lot of people have heard of so I guess I am one of the lucky ones.
