Laura and Emily came to see Storm play on Saturday night. I can't believe that after all these years, it was only the second game they have ever been too. As I said to Laura - "Someone's Aunty has been very, very slack indeed."
We played the Roosters and we won. I was a bit concerned towards to the end as I thought we may be heading towards extra time like last week - or worse - a loss. But the Storm boys did well to hang on and secure the win. Storm 20 Roosters 16.
It was kind of a special game because it marked Matty Geyer's - aka. The Hack, as he is affectionately known in some circles - 200th First Grade Game. I can't say I've always been a Matty Geyer fan. In fact, in those early days of 1999, I tried my absolute hardest to dislike him - hence The Hack. Why in the World would I do that? Well, he did take Craig Smith's spot in the team and I was SO dirty on him for it. However, Matty Geyer being Matty Geyer, it is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE to dislike him. In fact, he's just so damn lovable ;) Especially when he looks at us after an away loss and says "Sorry about that..." :( You just know he means it too. So, basically my dislike of him lasted all of about 5 seconds. Besides, I also have him to thank for my nickname - Tristo. But that's another story for another time.
Yes, Scott, I admit it... First The Queen and now Supersonic Geyer. What can I say? Closet. Me. Out. Personally, I can't wait for Matty Geyer's 200th STORM game. He'll be the first player to make it to that milestone and I can't think of a more fitting player. From my calculations, it will be Round 20 v Cronulla at HOME! Party at Olympic Park that night, let me tell you!
Enough about The Hack and back to Laura and Emily...
I think they enjoyed themselves. Well, I'm pretty sure that Lauz did - After all, she did get her photo taken with Billy Slater! Apparently she is quite the envy of the school as a result ;) Not sure about Emily though. I think she was a bit cold and not really sure about what the two teams of nuffers were doing out on the field. She mentioned that she didn't understand what the scrum was all about. Unfortunately, that's one of the mysteries of Rugby League to me too. I mean, really what's the point? The Halfback places the ball on the ground, it goes under one foot and then he picks it up again. Seriously, why do they bother?
After the game we headed to the social club for an hour or so and Emily and Laura were able to have cuddles with Beckham and Campbell. I hadn't had a cuddle with Ryan yet so I baby-napped him :)
Finally, we decided we should have some tucker and, on Glenn and Tanya's suggestion, we went to Sophia's in Camberwell. Talk about HUGE meals. The highlight for me was their Pizza Garlic - Lashings of crushed garlic with a thin slice of pizza base holding it all together :) That was one serious garlic pizza. We all must have stunk the next day, that's for sure.
Thanks for coming to the game girls. Next time I suggest we invite the Traralgonites and the Maryboroughites and the rest of the Noble Parkites... Or at least the kids from all places, if the adults aren't all that impressed with the idea. (There's an out for you Rugby League Phobics adults ;)
Oh yeah, State of Origin II teams were announced yesterday.
Storm have Greg Inglis, Cameron Smith and Dallas Johnson named for the Maroons (Queensland) and Matt King playing for the Blues (New South Wales). Unfortunately for Greg Inglis - and Queensland - he is almost certain to miss the game due to injury. Steve Bell (Manly) has been named at Centre for the Maroons. Great to see him playing position this time. Bring on June 14th!!! Go Queensland!
