When Brian Waldron came to Melbourne Storm in 2004, I admit I wasn't convinced he was right for our club. Heck, I didn't know a lot about him but something just wasn't right. During 2005 he didn't do a great deal to make me change my mind.
- What exactly are his intentions at Storm?
- Why is he here?
- Why does he care?
- Does he care at all?
In the space of 24 hours he has managed to answer all those questions for me.
He is here for this team - OUR team - Melbourne Storm.
He wants to make his team - OUR team - successful.
He cares because he believes, unlike many others, that Storm does have a future in the NRL and that future is looking pretty damn bright.
Initially I wasn't convinced that Brian and co. went about the press conference yesterday the correct way. I was concerned that it would just cause Storm to be labelled the 'whingers' of the League and that it would raise the whole 'poor us... everybody hates us 'cos where from Melbourne' attitude again.
Over the course of today I've come to the conclusion that - Who cares what people call us?
Brian Waldron said EXACTLY what needed to be said.
