Today, I finally got to see something that I've been waiting five and a half long years for: Steven Bell's name in the Queensland State of Origin team.
It's taken him a move interstate and a new team to get there but I've never doubted for a second he wouldn't make it. Congratulations Steve! You are the best! And obviously I'm not the only one who thinks so. Gees, what's taken you people so long!?!
Although his selection this year was not a surprise, the position he has been named at is - or at least I think it is. I never, ever would have guessed he'd be named as a winger. I don't think I've ever seen Belly play anything other then centre - Except perhaps in the first trial game in 2001 when he was named 5/8th. 5/8th? 'Eh? Exactly!
I mean, really - A winger? Sure he's got the speed to be a winger but aren't wingers meant to be good under the high ball too? No offence intended - as most people who know me will also know that I think the sun shines out of Belly's you know what - but what's Belly going to do when a kick comes hurtling towards him? LOL! Me thinks, he and Thurston better go down the local park and get some extra kicking practice in ;)
Seriously though, well done to Belly. He has certainly earned his spot in the side and I am sure he will do brilliantly for Queensland wherever he plays. It's going to be such a cool game to watch.
On the Storm front we have a couple of Origin Rookies in the team ourselves. Dallas Johnson and Greg Inglis, will both make their well-deserved Origin debuts on Wednesday 24 May after both being named in the starting lineup for Queensland. They will be joined by Cameron Smith who has been named at hooker for his 4th State of Origin campaign.
Matt King has been named in the New South Wales side.
