The Empire Builder... Part 1

Seattle - Minneaoplis - Day 6 / 7
Sunday 15 & Monday 16-Oct-2006

The Empire Builder - that's the name of the train which runs from Seattle to Chicago. Even though I did the complete journey, I did it in two stages.

The first Stage was Seattle to Minneapolis. And I have to say, that I thoroughly enjoyed it. The train is so much more comfortable then an airplane. Lots more room and I found it quite easy to sleep.

To start the journey the track followed Puget Sound before heading inland to Everett. At one point the train passes through a tunnel which is something like 7 miles long. Unfortunately it was already dark out so we really had no idea when we went through it! lol! Overnight we crossed Idaho into Montana. Montana was gorgeous and had such a diverse landscape. To start with we were crossing (and going through) mountainous regions and then it flattens out into miles and miles of plains. Montana seemed to go on forever and ever. When it got dark on Sunday evening we were still in Montana.

Overnight on the second night we crossed into North Dakota and at 7:30am Monday morning we arrived at Minneapolis.
