I once caught a fish... THIS BIG!

At lunch time today I finally worked up the energy to go check out the 'Big Fish' floating on the Yarra River.

Each of the 72 big fish represents a country competing in the Commonwealth Games to be held in Melbourne next month. There are only 71 countries competing, so lucky Australia gets two creatures. I didn't have time to walk past all 72 so I haven't found which two yet.

But guess who I did find?

It's NEMO!!!
Nemo, or more accurately the Clownfish, is representing Vanuatu where it is found amongst the coral reefs surrounding the island. It lives amongst the stinging tentacles of sea anemones ("OK, don't hurt yourself.")

These types of fun and fast facts can be found on display boards placed on the bank of the river in front of each fish.

It's a nice, if somewhat odd, idea.

At the end of the day though, I'd have to say I am quite impressed and I am looking forward to seeing them lit up at night.

Dear Auntie Katy,
Thank you for putting a picture of Nemo on your website. I want to see Nemo!

Hi Adelaide,

You can let Mummy and Daddy know that Nemo is upstream and one Big Fish away from the Princes Bridge, on the city side of the Yarra. (There is a different fish on each side)

If you happen to come to the city in the next few weeks you now know where to find him too :)
